Endoscopy is the term used to describe the multiple procedures used to visualize the inside of the esophagus (swallowing tube), stomach (gastric), duodenum (the first part of the small intestine), colon (or large intestine) and ileum (final portion of the small intestine). A very advanced camera is used for these tests called an endoscope. This high definition camera not only gives the endoscopist the ability to see these organs but treatments can be performed such as biopsies, dilations, removal of objects and growths and treatment of bleeding. The videos below give a good representation of some of the capabilities these tests can provide for patients.
